server monitoring

I posted a smilar question in another group. So I would like try this one.

Problem: I would like to have one server monitor another server.
If the server being monitored fails, the monitor server would proceed to
load the network services automatically; theoretically eliminating
disruptive gaps for our office.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Besides heartbeat from www.linux-ha.org you may try Kimberlite from
Mission Critical Linux:
http://oss.missioncriticallinux.com/projects/kimberlite/

It has a good general clustering and HA documentation :)
