I thought it might be heating up the CPU too much, because the
CPU goes up to 90% as shown by top. So, I installed Ksensors and
monitored all the voltages and temperatures while playing Poptropica
stuff. The machine did shut off, but all of the sensors were quite
happy.
Then I thought it might be memory trouble. So, I installed memtest86+
and let it run for a very, very long time. No errors were reported.
The game runs in Flash 9 running inside the most up to date Firefox 2.
OK, what gives? What could be toxic about that website to my Mandriva
2008.0 distribution running on a 600MHz Duron with 512MB of RAM?
Thanks.....

Two things:
Did you monitor the temperature.of the video card? I had a dust-bunny clog up the fan on my video card and it caused several unwanted shutdowns.
I had a great deal of trouble with Flash 9.and Firefox 2. Never a power problem--just a FF crash. Once I upgraded to FF 3, all was okay. A sure crash was with FF 2 on the "animation" section of the Dilbert website [dilbert.com/animation]. My FF would go down more than Paris Hilton after a magnum of champagne...

[ Anyone naming their child should spend a few minutes checking rhyming slang and dodgy sounding names. Brad and Angelina failed to do this when naming their kid Shiloh Pitt. At some point, someone at school is going to spoonerise her name.

No. How does one do that?

I can check that visually.

I can try Firefox 3 I suppose.

Ouch. ;-)
Thanks for the ideas!
