Hullo.

I'm trying to install Linux on my a2000 w. Blizzard 2060.
From what I've read in this group, I need the 2.1.64 kernel in
order to make the SCSI work. However, I've been unable to locate
a precompiled 2.1.64 kernel. I've only found source distributions,
and they're a bit hard to compile without any HD partitions :-)

So, does any one of you

* Know where ther's a precompiled 2.1.64 kernel?
* Have it yourself and are willing to send it to me?

Thankful for any help,
Marc Abramsson

The stable 2.0.x kernels should work find with the Blizzard.

2.1.64 should not be distributed in binary form, its a developers
kernel.

There are some 2.0 kernels awailable as precompiled binaries. They
should do as far as I know. Also have a look at

http://debian-m68k.home.pages.de/

cause I will add some new kernels there during the next days.
If you need some special stuff, let me know and I will see what I can
do.

May the Source be with you.

Wrong, you don´t _need_ 2.1.64, 2.0.31-pre3 is fine on my B2060.
You should not find a precompiled 2.1.64, since its a developer kernel.
When you are trying to install Linux and there is no serious reason to use a developer kernel (ie you want to install from a 640MB MO), use a stable kernel, ie 2.0.31-pre3.
ftp://sunsite.auc.dk/pub/os/linux/680x0/testing/vmlinux-2.0.31-pre3-Amiga.tar.gz
This is safe from the glibc bug. Be sure to read:
http://www.gate.net/~storm/FAQ/libc5-libc6-Mini-HOWTO.html
when you are upgrading to libc6 (ie from debian base1.3).

Ciao,
Christian.

Sounds like the problem with the NCR53C9x on the recent Phase 5 boards
that does not identify itself correctly. This has been fixed in
2.0.31-m68k-pre3 and recent developer kernels.

I have tried several 2.0 kernels. Those that work at all cannot

use the 2060 SCSI bus. When running mke2fs i get a whole series

of timeouts, and then a device hang.

(and sometimes 'trying harder', and ones or twice 'kernel panic')

Some other people have reported similar problems, and from the

answers they got it would seem that the 2.0 kernels don't handle
the 2060 SCSI correctly.

Anyway, I have secured a 2.1.64 kernel binary, and will try it.
(no need for any more people to send me kernels :-)

Strange, I have had no problems at all with the 2.0.29 kernel
in a B2000 with a 2060. (Actually, I did to start with, but that
was due to the presence of 16 bit memory).
