Description: Hardware compatibility with the Linux operating system.

external sound card
Bonjour, I have an ASUS P5WD2 Premium mobo with an integrated sound card: Realtek ALC882D. I have a lot of interferences and the sound is not very clear. As I have the same distro (fedora 10) on my laptop with no sound problems, so I think that the sound card is not good and I am wondering if I can solve my problem with an external sound card.... more »

Hibernating under Linux ...
One of the few things I think Windows does well (well, definitely better than "us") is hibernating. You can actually notice how the hard drives don't seem to be powered and even the fans stop spipping I have tried hibernating under both, knoppix 6.2 and Ubuntu 9.10 and none of them get it right. Is there any Linux distro that does?... more »

PCMCIA won't wake up after suspend
I recently updated my old Thinkpad-240X from Vectorlinux-4.2 to xubuntu-9.10 and in general have found it to be an improvement. The most pressing issue at the moment is that the PCMCIA slot doesn't wake up after opening the laptop, so I have no network support until I reboot. I have tried removing and inserting the... more »

Transfering Images from Cell Phone
Hello. Hoping someone can help me solve a problem for a recent Linux convert who lives down the road from me. He wants to transfer pictures taken with his cell phone, a Samsung M320 (SPH-M320) to his desktop computer, a machine running Ubuntu 8.04. It appears that Samsung blocks the storage device in this phone from... more »

advice for my new Linux workstation
Hi all, I'm looking to build a new Linux system. I call it a 'workstation' because I never play game on it, never connect speaker to it (I don't even configure the sound), etc. I'll ask a few questions because I'm a bit lost with all the technologies that appeared in the last 3 years. Before-last system was a Pentium 4 / Asus mobo / Kingston... more »

What does this line of sensor program mean temp1: +50.0°C (high = +8.0°C, hyst = +11.0°C) ALARM sensor = thermistor In parenthesis it means that the value is already too high for 8 degrees or it is up to 8 degrees to be considered high ? H8SSL-i supermicro motherboard and SATA drives >= 1TB
We're having the problem referenced in: [link] We've installed the referenced BIOS (which still calls itself v1.2, but has a later timestamp than the "real" v1.2). But, using WD10EADS-00L5B1 drives (Western Digital "green" 1TB) drives, the system still refuses to... more »
