I have a dot-matrix (i.e. impact) printer, perforated tractor-feed paper and all. How do I print out banners? I've made a CUPS raw queue if that helps. Niceties (like font choice and borders) are extra goodness, but not critical.

fdutils with USB floppy drive?

My current Linux box doesn't have a floppy drive, though I do have a USB floppy drive. I've had no problems working with floppies that have already been formatted, but have been unable to figure out how to get fdformat (and other floppy utilities) to work on the USB floppy drive. Is it even possible? Does fdformat/fdutils require a "real"... more »

Hi, i have a problem using audio on linux using this command: cat < /dev/dsp > out and then cat < out > /dev/dsp I obtain a very bad-quality sound with a lot of noise in background... I have an application which gets Video controller information using VESA BIOS routines. It makes use of LRMI library for making real mode BIOS call in x86_32 bit Linux machine. Say I wanted to load a Linus OS on a Pentium (not II or III) IBM Laptop (non-booting Hard Drive) and/or an HP with oh I think its a PIII running under 900Mhz, then wouldn't I want to seek out the smaller distributions; those with less bells and whistles perhaps but still able to recognize video chipsets and bioses, right?... more »
