I just got an Onstream DI30 tape drive.
I went through, configured the kernel, built it, and everything seems
okay. On boot, the kernel realizes that the drive is there, and maps
it to /dev/ht0 (or so it seems).

When I do anything at all with the drive, I get I/O errors. If I do a

mt -f /dev/ht0 status

I get an I/O error. Same if I ask it to rewind. If I try to tar
anything, thus:

tar -cvvb 64 -f /dev/ht0 /etc

say, I get an I/O error as soon as I reach a point where it has to
write data to the disk.

I tried the drive and tapes out under windows. Everything seems okay
there.

Anybody have any ideas?
