Hey,

Tonight I did a card swap from an ASUS GeForce2/MX400 card to an XFX
6600GT. The nVidia website claims the same driver should support both.
I updated /etc/X11/xorg.conf on my IA32 box running 2.6.12-1.1376_FC3
to reflect a BoardName of "NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT".

After rebooting, X came up just fine. I decided to run Unreal
Tournament 2004, just to see how much more I could turn on in the way of
visual effects with the 6600GT, compared to the GeForce2. That
experiment had to be delayed, as the performance was *DOG* slow with the
original settings used for the GeForce2 card. Likewise, running gl-117,
I used to get 25-30 fps with the original configuration on the GeForce2.
Running that configuration on the 6600GT yielded 5 fps.

Lastly, X is chewing up about 25% of the CPU while rendering a few
windows and a couple of monitor applets. The old X load with the
GeForce2 was a few percent, steady-state.

Clearly, something is wrong.

I'm thinking software/admin configuration error vice hardware problem.
Any ideas or related experience?

Here's some system output that may be helpful:

Some of the links I have found suggest library conflicts for libGL and
libGLCore may be the issue. I've checked the libraries and the symlinks
to them, and that's not what's going on here.

Below is the contents of my xorg.conf file.

-snip-

I found a link that suggests the card requires a 450 watt power supply.
Without such, the card apparently scales back performance. I'll try a
beefier supply as soon as I can pick one up.
