I recently bought an MP3 player (Philips audio Key015, holding 512MB),
which aacts as an USB key.
I first used it under Linux : everything fine, I could write MP3 files
on it and they were saved.
Then, I used it under Windows ME. First shock : WinME removed my MP3
files. OK, never mind, I still had them on my Linux PC.
But what's best follows : now, when I plug my key in, mount it
(/dev/sda1), I can read files on it, I can ask Linux to copy files on
it, I sync, I umount, I remount to check the files are still on it
(and they are), I umount, I remove the key and plug it back in, I
mount, and surprise, the files I've just copied have disappeared !
Does anyone have a clue of what's going on ?
I am using a Debian unstable, with 2.4.20 kernel. Here's a copy of
what I found in syslog :

I have to say that the warning is not especially encouraging.
Any help appreciated !
Patrick.
the warning is standard for anyone using usb-storage under 2.4. I can't
say what your problem is though.

I cannot help you, this is just a sympathy post: I am experiencing
the same problem for quite some time now. With a Creative Muvo device.
on a redhat 9 system with several 2.4.x kernels. Maybe 2.6 is better,
but I haven't checked to see if much is changed in the USB Mass storage
device handling.
Sometimes the files are copied properly, sometimes they aren't. I cannot
find anything that gives me consistent behaviour eitherway. I just cannot
trust the data I put on the key. Very annoying.

FWIW, I had trouble with the muvo (different from yours but ..)
The fix was to upgrade the firmware to version 1.4 (need
windows for that unfortunately). If you have an older version
you might give this a try (the download can be found on
the creative web page).
