Hi,

I want to spend spare time doing some useful work in the linux
kernel. I want to try out things that will be useful for general
software quality improvement : catching memory errors, software
runtime inspection, performance hotspots etc. My idea is that although
there are commercial products like valgrind, a specialized kernel will
be a good thing. Please provide starting pointers!

Thanks,
Shankar

Since when is valgrind a "commercial products"? Last time I
looked (about 10 seconds ago) I found

Valgrind is Open Source / Free Software, and is freely available
under the GNU General Public License, version 2.
