I'm using the NoBlink 1.5 patch in 1.99.3, with a non-blinking block
cursor. The problem I have is that when the cursor is atop a letter, you
can't see through the cursor to the letter, which I find rather annoying.
Does anyone have a hack to the patch that fixes this problem?

I'm using a version of noblink-1.7 which will patch clean into
1.99.x, but I can't supply it right now because I'm away from my Linux box.
The author of noblink gave me this patch, but I don't know if he is
planning a new release or if he allows me to redistribute it.
I don't get this problem. You might want to try compiling the cursor
program and invoking the command "cursor green" to change your cursor
color.
I hope this helps. If the author of noblink (Sanders, if I
recall?) is reading this, please drop me a line. Thanks!

Actually, I said the wrong version number, I'm also using noblink-1.7, but
it did not patch cleanly into 1.99.3...2 lines were rejected, and I patched
them by hand, as it was clear where they went.

When I played with colors, I realized that the cursor is actually
transparent, it just doesn't reverse the color of the letter it is over, as
I am used to with GPM...white text showing through a white cursor isn't
really helpful.
Any ideas?
