Linux as server OS? No?
My point has always been against artificially restricting the workstation. The simple fact is, that for this particular task, if it wasn't for the license, the workstation *would* be able to do what the server can, and do it just as well. I can see now that the only way to make you happy would be to literally and physically castrate NTWS ...

Microsoft is FUN and Linux is BORING
What GUI's do is castrate the interface so that there are less ways for you to make a mistake. Although there are still plenty left for the novice. No, what the GUI does is to present you with Graphical UI. Apperantely, you're on a Unix, I'm not sure if you've Midnight Commander there, but if you do, fire it up, and take a look at it.
