But I get fed up.
Then I promptly switch back to whatever OS I feel like installing.
Then I get fed up again.
And I think 'Oh, someone on slashdot said that this is the time to switch to linux! I should try it AGAIN!'...
then I switch to linux.
Until I get fed up...

This is typical and helps to explain why the various download numbers for
Linux do not match the actual usage statistics from various sites like the
BBC.

People try Linux in the hope that it will be better than Windows.
They quickly discover all the headaches Linux creates and move back to
Windows.

That's why the people like you feel proud of being a leader of Idiots;
who never ever look into their hard-disks -- what WinDOS is doing there
and how much inefficient it is in using and, or allocating resources.

Do you know that the Redmond people do not know even where and how store
log and, or temporary files till today, that's after years of expertise,
having a largest paid fleet of man-power and biggest robbers of hard
earned money from innocent users; though they claim to be one of top
technology group in the commercial world of computing.

FYI, *you need not install* Linux, FreeBSD and, or OpenSolaris these
days; all you have to do is download a suitable LiveCD/DVD image, burn
it and boot off the same. None of the above will touch any of your
hard-disks until you opt for a installation.

Do you spend a lot of time "looking into your hard disks"?
Wow!
What a productive way to spend the day!

I prefer to be using applications.

You seem to be spending an awful lot of time looking for things and
worrying about lost space.
Tell me, have you upgraded your Seagate ST225 20 Megabyte drive yet?

Yep.
People can try the Linux crap before they let it destroy their systems and
data.

You sound like a loon BTW.

Do you also believe that people should read and understand the NNTP spec
before they are allowed to post to Usenet?

Mr. Shearman, another Linux loon in COLA, believes that.
Sounds like you two are peas in a pod so to speak.

No, sorry, I'm not paid to shit and look at what WinDOS and, or paid
morons like you do with your easy money and, or hard-disks; the reply I
made was only to make some intelligent and, or legitimate people aware
of the facts that how inefficient that said WinDOS is.

FYI, I'm not a free and, or paid cretin like you; so I shall not

Well sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not in COLA. I'm reading
these posts in the Ubuntu group. The only reason they are going
to COLA is because whomever started the thread had it crossposted
there...and to Vista groups, which I removed because this has
nothing to do with Vista.

I'm NOT a Linux pusher, I still use Windows most of the time
since I'd just installed Linux a few weeks ago, maybe a month+
ago, and still checking out apps and learning Linux. There are
things I like and things I don't like.

Believe what you want to believe. It's painfully obvious that you
are completely anti-Linux, just like some are completely anti-MS,
and have such strong preconceived beliefs that it doesn't really
matter what anyone says about any particular Linux item,
everyone's a liar, and nothing works out-of-the-box.

7.6 Trespasser Disinformation Tactics

22. Use invalid statistics. Introduce statistics to try to hurt
Linux, Linux Advocates, and/or the Linux community at large. Do
not about them be valid or real. It would be nice if you can find
those statistics on-line, but if you can't find any, invent them
out of whole cloth. If they are discredited, don't let that
bother you, keep citing them. If you see a fellow anti-Linux
propagandist using statistics, cite them as well, no matter their
lack of validity.

23. Lie. Lie, lie, lie, lie. If you do it often enough you may
create the appearance of truth.

>> People try Linux in the hope that it will be better than
>> Windows. They quickly discover all the headaches Linux
>> creates and move back to Windows.

32. Promote Windows at every opportunity. Microsoft Windows
needs a lot of help to be successful in the mind share of its
targeted user base. Point out to everybody on COLA how wonderful
it is. Ignore the meaning of the name of the newsgroup and its
charter.

> Agreed!

46. Accept the claims of other anti-Linux propagandists as face
value. Always treat other anti-Linux propagandist's statements
as being true. Accept their interpretations without question,
don't bother verifying their statements. If they claim something
against a Linux advocate always side with the anti-Linux
propagandists.

This *used* to be typical, about three or four years ago. These days, the
Linux/FSF/OSS communities have either cloned or contributed almost every
application commonly used today; at the OS level, they now have Windows
Vista as their new basis for comparison. More than ever, this game
of "musical OSes" is more the exception than the rule.

> People try Linux in the hope that it will be better than Windows.

"Better" is subjective. If people expect Linux to run every native Windows
application under the sun with no slowdown or "bottlenecks", they're not
being realistic.

If these users expect every distribution to find and configure all their
obscure and proprietary webcams, scanners, and WiFi cards without some
thought or intervention on their behalf, they're not being realistic.

Linux is getting close to being "plug-and-play", but it still requires some
intelligent thought and effort on behalf of the user.

Fool! You were actually making holes flow /forward/! <grin>

I think it's fair to say that personal computers have become the most
empowering tool we've ever created. They're tools of communication, they're
tools of creativity, and they can be shaped by their user.

It's not that difficult in an antimatter environment; the difficulty is
maintaining the matter-isolation field to prevent onesself vaporising in a
large explosion while at the same time operating with matter-based
antimatter tipped tools on antimatter componentry interfaced with matter
components.Cooling the superconductors in the interface circuitry can be a
frosty affair too.
