Spasmodic playback of Flash videos on Youtube and other sites - works great
some of the time, jerky as hell other times, even when the browser is the
only thing running (other than anti-malware apps, of course)
Explorer "forgets" my folder settings about half the time - default view set
for medium icons - sometimes it shows those, other times, large icons, other
times the detailed view.
It takes Explorer an eternity to draw the icons when viewing a folder with
more than a few dozen items in it. While it's "thinking" the computer is
essentially unresponsive and I have to sit and wait for it do finish what
it's doing.
IE8 is a bloated pig that runs slower than molasses and likes to crash often
for no apparent reason.
Updates - even though I told Windows to merely notify me and not
auotmatically install them, it still does. I can come back to the machine
and it's rebooted itself to finish updating.
Streaming audio or video files from my Iomega network drive? Forget it. They
run in fits and starts. No, it's not the drive or the network connection
itself, because things work fine from Linux. For that matter, they work fine
in Vista *if* the file is on the machine's hard drive.
Overall performance is sluggish as hell. It's like moving in slow motion, no
matter how simple the task.
And this crap is being forced on people? Bah.

Great news! So current Vista-victims get a free copy of W7?

Nah, they get to pay for Visduh, then pay some more to "upgrade"
to XPee, then pay some more to get W7.
And then it will be out in the open that just like every microsoft release since
MSDOS 2.0, windows W7 will require at least twice the resources as its
predecessor.
Make sure you have a quad core and least 8 gig of ram or expect W7 to
run like shit.
That's not what the lying idiot said back then:
"OK - it ran decently enough as a VM, but I really didn't see much tangible
benefit to keeping Vista around."

It's a given. Isn't it weird now, how all the Windows FUDdites have
suddenly realized, "Yeah, Vista is a piece of crap that requires way too
much computer power to even run."
We could have all told them that a long time ago.
What a silly fellow you are! Of course it may need advanced resources, that
is the natural result of offering advanced performance.
A jet airplane uses more fuel per passenger mile than did a Ford trimotor,
too.
Why would an OS with "advanced performance" need *more* resources instead
of less? Not much in the case of "advanced performance" then, me thinks

This is microsoft we're talking about. You're expected to replace
all your hardware every two years just to enjoy the same or worse
performance.
>> A jet airplane uses more fuel per passenger mile than did a Ford
>> trimotor, too.
Sheesh, what an idiotic statement.
>So airplanes is just another thing you know absolutely nothing about
Trimotor:
Capacity: 8 passengers
Fuel consumption: 45 US gal/h at 90mph
Range: 550 mi
To go 3500 miles, add 5 stops, each consuming an additional 45 gal.
airbus A320-200:
Capacity: 180 passengers
Fuel Capacity: 7,840 US gal
Range 3500 miles
keep in mind that the range before empty is probably 4000 miles.
Trimotor:
1935 gallons ( 3500 / 90 = 38 hours * 45g/h = 1710
plus 5*45 for additional takeoffs
for 8 passengers, 241 gallons per passenger
Airbus
7840 gallons for 180 passengers, 43 gallons
Yeah, that trimotor is the way to go.
Of course, if it were microsoft, the newest version would require
a hundred thousand gallons per passenger.
We did!

Apparently English is not your native language. The plural "airplanes"
requires a plural verb. You should use "are" in place of "is". Furthermore
the sentence object must also be plural, so "thing" must change to "things"
and the singular "another" needs to be changed to "other", i.e "airplanes
are just other things...". That is still a clumsy construction, but it is
your choice.
As to the imputed truth of the matter, are you suggesting that jet airplanes
use less fuel than the Ford Trimotor per passenger mile flown? Or are you
suggesting that the jet airplane's performance was not advanced by
comparison?
Well, I guess they're out of luck if they want it for free. Microsoft
previously gave Vista owners an update to XP (The "back to the future"
upgrade), but that's not really working out for Microsoft. They aren't
making much money on the deal.
Now they'll force OEMs to install W7 onto all new computers and
*especially* onto laptops and "netbooks".
Vista is running here for 11 month now, 24X7, no problems.
11 month ago there was a general power failure in my area.
The reboots during these 11 month were automatic update / SP related.
Before that it ran for 1 year, without any problems.
Do you have Vista running?
Windows proliferates from machine to new machine because of the
compatibility issue and the new application availability issue. Linux
suffers in that it effectively provides neither base need. Vista suffered
in not being so friendly to the user's previous application investments.
The technology and feature set of the OS is not as big of an issue as is
often claimed.

That's what is so irritating - the machine in question meets MS's
recommendations in order to have the "full" Vista experience. But even with
Aero Glass turned off it still runs like shit. And let's not forget the many
irritating bugs.

What is truly amazing with vista is how trivial operations like
opening the desktop properties take longer than opening openoffice
on a linux system. first and Nth time.

Of course, you idiot! About 1/5th as much fuel per passenger mile.

I run Vista at home, and it's nowhere as bad as you describe. I suspect
either your computer doesn't have the resources for Vista, or it's got
some sort of hardware problem.
I run it on a 2.0 GHz dual core Intel PC, with 2 GB of RAM, to which I've
just added a 1 GB nVidia 1GB 9400GT card, but I didn't have your video
problems before I did.

Do you send M$ extra money to pay for new IE versions, and for Windows

You'll be happy to learn I recently bought a Linux Eee PC900. I also
have a Slackware subscription.

heh! Good ol' Sermo.
You can always count on a Linux "advocate", can't you?

Of course it's not. Zeigler is a bumbling liar.
Until Windows 7 is released, Windows Vista is the best choice for personal
computing. It runs tons of apps, it runs the best apps, the best games,
supports buku peripherals, and runs *well* on low-end x86 hardware (P4,
3.0ghz, or older Athlon X2). It's a memory hog, so you'll want 2gb of RAM.

I installed Vista Ultimate on a P3,800mhz,512RAM,32mb GeForce2 system and it
ran acceptably well.

This machine has a 1.6 Ghz Athlon processor and 3 GB RAM with a GeForce FX
5200 graphics card. No hardware problems.

Freeloading is taking advantage of the generosity of others. That's what
the Linux "community" does.
* I paid Microsoft (several $thousands) for licenses to use their software
* I donated $20 to Mozilla.org after I decided to stick with Firefox.
* I've tried to donate money to Innotek for VirtualBox, but never got a
response from them (I won't give Sun any more money - I paid them $85 for
Solaris-Intel that wouldn't install).
* every Linux distro I have installed - and 20 I don't - was bought from
FrozenTech or via Linux Format mag.

Congrats: now get the 67% of Linux users who pay nothing and contribute
nothing (no bug reports, no code) to join you.
Also, Slackware is a pain in the ass.
Also, why didn't you mention you paid for and run Microsoft Windows Vista?
