Here is the information on that ip address.

I would file an abuse report with the name listed in the contact
information.

Good question, and you're way off the beaten path for
technical assistance. I'll do what little I can...

Best I can do is note that a reverse DNS lookup suggests
that it's banana.catalyst2.com (a forward DNS lookup
confirms this); Catalyst2 appears to be a web hosting
site. You might contact them and tell them you're being
inundated.

(Yes, there's an apple.catalyst2.com. It uses IIS6.
Go fig.
Yes, there's an apricot.catalyst2.com, but it's
not taking requests.
Yes, there's a fig.catalyst2.com, which responds RedHat/Apache.
Fruity mix they've got there.)

Banana appears to be a *Linux* site; banana.catalyst2.com
is showing a "Congratulations, Apache is working" page as
of this moment.

As for your firewall blocking attacks from this
site...let's just say that even though your firewall is
blocking the attacks, there's only so much it can do as
the attacks are sucking bandwidth from your uplinks.

Thanks.... and now it stopped. I guess they've moved on to their next
target.

I bet they detected my "Windows firewall" and ran for the hills.<g>

Unlikely. On the the other hand, you run windows, which has difficulties not
falling all over itself without any "attack" from the outside

Peter, he's messing with y'all. That the IP address of some sites of mine. The

Guys, please don't feed the trolls with sarcasm. To just clarify what's going
on here, Microsoft or its partners/shills/Munchkins/fans/whatever are now
trying to harass Web hosts in order to gag me. Previously they harrassed
everyone at the University, issued personal confrontational threats, attacked
my sites, spread slanderous messages on the Web, tried to get people to sue
me, attacked my messages in various sites along with personal attacks and so
forth, mass buring of submissions, gaming of rating systems (e.g. in Google
Groups). They still do that, too.

It's classic bullying culture. What for? For posting on-topic material to a
Linux forum.

This type of gagging routine was used against Groklaw as well. Paul McDougal
(InfoWeek), for example, put a placement about IBM/PJ and SCO used that
placement as 'evidence' for a subpoena. McDougal is kind of close to McBride.

That's just how Microsoft Works [sic].

I know, I figured as much as I ran a "whois" on that address.
Besides, who would want to DDOS the system of a extremely stupid wintroll?

He can do nothing. If he wanted to "complain", he has to show at least a
shred of evidence, like logs. He has none showing any DDOS, and he would
have to fake them. In that case he would be a criminal, and if he would
follow through he is already half in jail

To be frank, Roy, although this guy is likely to be a self-appointed
Microsoft condom, he is also likely to be a perverse clown who simply
enjoys harassing anyone who leaves an exposed profile.

The problem is that there is more than one, and attrition of some type
(even if only a vague worry) is unavoidable.

Since I've killfiled on References (and only for two sites), 2/3rds of
posts are block at my end. That speaks for itself about the efforts of
these net genital herpes viruses.

Bill forgot to add "like assholes" to his statement below.

1. You claimed the same stuff over on digg and ended up with a -119 rating.

2. Your University tossed you because you were spamming your crap flood
using their network which is a complete violation of their Terms of
Service, and you know it.

You got caught and don't like it.

3. Confrontation threats? Any proof of this one Roy Schestowitz?
Why would anyone threaten you?

4. I can't speak for anyone else but I stay clear of your sites after
visiting one of them just to look around and subsequently found my firewall
log full of funny probes from that particular site.

The real truth is Roy Schestowitz, you are a nut case who thinks everyone
who doesn't agree with you is out to get you.
You over estimate your importance to Linux and OSS.

Things are not going well for Microsoft at the moment, so rather than
fix their own problems, they will try to blame this on outside
interests. Quite how a handful of people on the internet could ever
possibly bring a multi-million Dollar company to this state is beyond
me, in reality, it takes years and years worth of bad management to
achieve such a thing.

Still, it's kind of flattering that even the idea that a few messages on
usenet could be seen as being enough to bring down an empire.
