Select from list:

1. Yeah, that's telling it like it is! (for advocates)
2. Works for me! (for those poor souls who can't get their penis to
work, never mind the challenge of getting a computer to do what they
need it to do)
3. Fuck off (for those who crawl newsgroups for the sole purpose of
raising hackles)
4. Have you read the manual? (for those who really do try but they're
lazy and CBA with doing some of their own research)
5. Here's what I did... (for those who /have/ tried everything they
can think of, even down to going through manuals and forums with a
fine tooth comb and finding sod-all)
6. I really don't know the answer to that... (for those who pose what
they think should be a really simple problem to solve directly to me
without first considering that I'm a: not a programmer, b: not a DBA,
c: not an MCP, d: not a cable monkey...)

...there's sure to be more, but I CBA ATM.

Happens all the time. Wannabe "tech gurus" talking shit. And thats the
way people screw up their machines. A bit like Liarnut advising Debian
users to use the NVidia installer even though Debian tech support
strongly advises against doing that.

brings situations like Xorg v Xfree to the fore.

Most of the time that is a valid answer. As is man foobar. FAQs and
man pages are there for a reason. Use them. They should be part of
your everyday Linux experience.

No. Help channels are there to help. Some people have neither the time
nor the expertise to decipher man pages. They are an art. 99.99% of
things asked in programming/tech help forums can be answered by
mastering the relevant documentation. That takes time and effort -
neither of which the person asking has.

IF the answer is simply a line from a relevant document then by all
means reference that.

But to RTFM is obnoxious in all cases. If yuo have nothing to say better
to say nothing at all. They are help channels/forums for a reason - to
help. And what might appear trivial to one person may not be so for
another.

Oh yeah, Rick, the post where you nymthieved my nym to post your
bogus FAQ. This is an example of:
Subject: 4.6 Forgeries

They regularly forge the identities of posters who they do not
like. This can vary from badly spelled versions of their name
and/or email address, to forgeries which the average reader would
not be able to detect.

At times this can reach a bizarre condition where they troll
using a forged identity at a Breidbart Index of well over 20.
They then at every opportunity call the victim a troll.

Larting the offender is often effective because ISPs recognise
the seriousness of this offence.

Where Forgery is done via an anonymous remailer complaints to
abuse@thelastremailerinthechain may well be effective. The
remailers administrators do not like their facilities being
misused, and have ways of combatting this. It is also worth
registering with http://www.paracrypt.com/remailerabuse/
Following has information on clogwog (Rick Mathers), who uses
anonymising remailers to hide his identity and location,
misleading the researcher to think he posts from Netherlands:
