Valve to make Linux gaming console
----------------------------------

http://linux.slashdot.org/story/12/11/18/013205/valves-big-picture-could-be-a-linux-game-console

Go valve go!

Linux is extremely powerful when it comes to high frame rates
and porting games to Linux can also
allow the game console to be a lot
better than competing platforms purely
because the OS and its management of data
in an embedded system sets it apart from custom
proprietary OSen forced to be developed by a small number
of proprietary engineers without the merits of open source
and peer review.

If valve should do their own distro like google and their
Android, and do gaming tablets, I would purchase one!

Based on that success, they could get their procesors
extended with more cores and custom graphics engines
that would set them apart from all the other console makers.

Valve can do it : but it will be a long expensive journey involving a
LOT of closed source development and hand holding with ATI and NVidia
etc as made clear in Valve's recent porting efforts.
