Interesting reading.

I never said it was Linux or RMS fault.
Those are your words, not mine.

Why?
Because somewhere, somehow, someway, someone is making a buck off the

yes that is right. corporate freetards. just like when bill gates
company corbis took out a patent on the ideas and work of infoflows.
those infoflows suckers didnt take steps to protect their work so
gates company picked it up and ran with it. make a buck off the
work of others. nothing wrong with that.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/19/technology/19startup.html?_r=3&ref=business&pagewanted=all
most of infoflows work was in the public domain anyway. so why shouldnt corbis
get a patent on it?
The article discusses whether an Android upgrade is coming to a particular
model of phone in Europe.
This does seem like a strange move however, as the US version of the
phone, the Motorola Droid, is reportedly receiving an update. It also
begs the question as to why Google rolls out such updates when Moto and
HTC both struggle to get them working on their phones in good time.
Currently only the soon-to-be-defunct Nexus One officially rocks Android
2.2.
How do you feel about Motorola's indecision? Is Google rolling out
too may updates or does it need to be tougher with its partners and make
the upgrade quicker? Tell us now on Facebook and Twitter.
Kinda makes me glad I passed on the Motorola Backflip, though.

This article is more interesting:
http://www.androidguys.com/2010/05/21/android-22-developers-perspective/
So, on the surface, it appears that Android 2.2 is goodness with few
downsides. Of course, with the SDK only being available for ~36 hours, we
may yet run into major regressions or other calamities. But Froyo went
how I would expect Gingerbread and future releases to go -- the core
remains largely unchanged, new APIs are added you can optionally
leverage, and lots of stuff gets added around and outside of app
development.

False dichotomy. The reasonable alternative to Android being controlled
by user-hostile carriers and clueless hardware makers is Android being
more centrally controlled by _Google_, which tends to be less
user-hostile and less clueless than most companies.
I mean, except in this case, where they seem to have deliberately thrown
end users to the wolves, so that the wolves will pre-install Android on
their devices and help it gain market share.
Google has to see the downsides here. Their lack of control over Android
hurts them more than anyone, because despite giving handset makers a
free OS, Google can't even guarantee that their services will be
featured in it. My guess is that Google is willing to accept this
because they prefer fragmentation to a unified OS controlled by _someone
else_ (presumably Apple), which they saw the long-term possibility of.

Troll1: (Something stupid and twisted and wrong)
Troll2: Exactly!
Amazing.
It seems they miss the fact that the person (or the organization
paying the person) wasn't just doing the work to benefit others. They
did it because they wanted to benefit from the result themselves. The
task was *greatly* facilitated because they could build-upon the work
of others, instead of starting from scratch.
This is the beauty of FOSS. A continuous chain of people
building-upon the work of others, with *huge* gains in efficiency and
*everyone* benefitting.

A real friend wouldn't accept money - and not share it - just for
letting you hang out with them.
IBM and RedHat are profiteers and freeloaders, as are most Linux users.
Want evidence? Sure thing:
http://files.opensuse.org/opensuse/en/6/6c/Opensuse_survey_102_data_final.pdf
More than 27,000 respondents.
Question 13: 84.7% say they are "not involved at all" in the Suse
project. That means no bug reporting and no creating patches or
packages and no participating in mailing list discussions.
Only 8.2% say they submit bug reports.
Question 15: 77.5% say they get openSuse by downloading it from the Suse
homepage.
Multiply 84.7% * 77.5% and you find that approx. 66% of your "community"
is a pack of freeloading freetards that take and take and give nothing
at all back.
And there's no reason whatsoever to believe that number is appreciably
different in any other Linux distro.

What are you waffling on about now Raytard? Are you now saying that MS
dont do due diligence? They ship an OS that is on about 1000 x more
machines than Linux. Shit happens in SW. But they, in fairness to them,
support a lot of HW and SW and maintain quite a good level of backward
compatibility.
It takes a real know nothing idiot to claim they are useless and that
OSS exceeds their standards. Hint : Vista was not the best. But it was
still good enough for many. Win 7, bleugh, has won the begrudgers over.
Why so bitter and clueless. Why do you keep talking about Windows

the same cannot be said when corporate freetards gets involved. do you

corbis lost the lawsuit by the way.
do you see any difference in attitude between corporate freetards and foss

dont you be bringing cars into this thread.
the hooded plumber and dfs are fixated on money. they have displayed an

it is not a big leap of the imagination that this includes their social

up. $350 seems to pay for a year of tuition and $100 a month takes care
of living expense. cheap! thats an entertainment budget for the middle
class in a rich country.

How do you continue to get things SO wrong?
No one claims Linux programmers live in their mothers basements. And
even if they did it would be nothing to do with them being poor.
Freetards and disfunctional loonies like the COLA extremists are the
ones who we claim live in their mother's basements and feel that by
joining Boycott Novell etc they are making a difference. They live in
their mother's basements because they lack any social graces, smell and
need their Mom's to tell them how special they are.
See?
Voodoo is just not too bright.
He continually misses the points and tries to be cute.
He just ends up looking like the idiot he is.
BTW Hans Reiser *was* caught hiding in his mother's basement.
I guess he felt comfortable there.
Kind of like when grown adults assume the fetal position when
threatened :)
Most FOSS programmers don't give enough info to verify that, but I'm
sure it's true in many cases. Open source programming doesn't pay much
in general, if it pays anything at all.
A couple years I gave some FOSS idiot a hard time for his blog posting
where he was soliciting money for living expenses (he was married with 1
child) so he could pursue hobbyware coding. He wasn't even working on a
specific project you could contribute to.
How shameful. He got upset with me for calling him out on asking
strangers to pay his way through life.

You're a cola Linux "advocate"; you've been floating in the bowl for a
while now. Look to your left and see chrisv floating beside you.

Don't you think you should help your fellow poor citizens before helping
poor foreigners?

that may be your view on what goes on with this newsgroup. considering
the tone of what gets posted here your position is astonishing. let us
assume for the sake of argument that your postings are in line with this
claim. you said "no one". be careful with such a sweeping proclamation.
that sucks in a slew of oddball fringe posters like clogwog and one shot
one kill. the likelihood that a careful investigation of their posting
history will show that they have been as careful as you to keep that
distinction is vanishingly small.
even a reputable poster like dfs (gotta roll the eyes on that one) gets
fast and loose in this area. his dumping of issues from ubuntu boards and
calling it hobbyware does damage to your claim.
if there is any separation of linux and foss programmers here it is only
something a lawyer could love. your valiant efforts to fight the good
fight is simply lost in the noise.

freetards. speaking of freetards, where do corporate freetards, you know
the ones involved in bill gates company corbis, fit into your world? they
are the ones that got a patent on infoflows ideas. then the silly gits
tried to defend their actions by claiming infoflows ideas (that corbis
patented) were in the public domain! does that fit your definition of a
freetard?

Do you send the money directly to them, or to the institutions, or to a
charitable organization?

honkys = honkeys
What does your lie about illegal Europeans have to do with charity, jigaboo?
I doubt the voodoo idiot is capable of signing a check.
Anyway, check his posting history.
He's yet another nym of one of our guests in the COLA zoo.
He must have escaped from his cage.

Flatty betrays his white-trash roots with comments like that,
although I suspect his bragging is little more than wishful thinking.
Hahaha!
Spoken like a true Scotsman!
Go blow a bagpipe, screw a sheep or something.

goodness. so perceptive of you. got it on the first try. oh. oh. oh.
do clogwog. how does his posting history mark him on the social ladder?
you are so incredible. its even miraculous. are you in line to be
promoted to minor godlet like dfs? will you be throwing lightning bolts
across the sky as you fight him for domination of the heavens? i think
you will win. good as dfs is, he just does not have what it takes to be
divine. know what i mean?
speaking of dfs, please help him out. he became confused and lost here
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.os.linux.advocacy/msg/a893a72d568e43cd
he thinks you are chrisv. it would be better if a friend like you
straighten him out. those linux loons you know will tease him just
forever if they catch him first.

you are not one to engage in idle banter with linux loons. why is this
important to you?

that is your job.

about as much as the attempt to claim that your charity is better than my
charity.
> What does your lie about illegal Europeans have to do with charity,
> jigaboo?
you are right, i was lying. we exterminated enough of the natives, we
certainly have the right to take whatever is left behind. no that cant be
right.
> What does your lie about illegal Europeans have to do with charity,
> jigaboo?
you are right, i was lying. there were no humans here, just animals. we
europeans moved into empty lands. no that cant be right.
> What does your lie about illegal Europeans have to do with charity,
> jigaboo?
you are right, i was lying. the natives had no laws against flooding
their lands with white immigrants. they had no laws against killing all
their buffalo. they had no laws against the cavalry surrounding a village
and wasting anything that moved. it was europeans that brought the
benefits of law and order and slavery to the savages. just ignore the
episode of that genocidal man that put the seminoles on a death march,
yeah no laws against that. oops pardon me. there was a law against that.
too bad there were only a few supreme court justices, and they were
hundreds of miles too far away to do anything. yeah what the honkeys did
wasnt illegal. mostly.
> jigaboo?
cant you even get the racist insults right?
