Microsoft struggles with Vista's perceptions

"In the 15 months since Windows Vista had its mainstream launch,
Microsoft says it's made progress on a number of key metrics: things
like application compatibility, availability of drivers, performance,
reliability, and battery life.

But there is one area where the company has struggled to gain ground:
how Vista is perceived.

"There's certainly a perceptual gap there," Mike Nash, a Microsoft
corporate vice president, said in an interview Thursday."

And this has what to do with Linux and the poor uptake on the desktop?

A multibillion dollar company should know better about public opinion
research:

"Mike Nash, a Microsoft corporate vice president [...] pointed to
Microsoft research that shows that 86 percent of those actually using
Vista would recommend it to a friend."

There is a small yet crucial detail that Microsoft neglects. By human
nature, people will have a strong tendency to support the use of a
product with the characteristics of an OS. Saying: "No, I would not
recommend Vista to a friend" is equivalent to acknowledging: "I am
stupid buyer and I got screwed. They ripped me off.".

I really think XP is going to be a flop. Between the glut of hardware out
there (and slowing down of purchasing), and the fact that W2K is
sufficient for so many casual users.... I just don't see it taking off.

Yeah, I saw Linux gained 20% over the last 10 years--it went from
0.048% to 0.06% (sic, don't forget to divide by 100, as we're talking
percent).

Gaining so fast, in 100 years it might be at 1%, maybe.

And this has "what" to do with Vista ME's failures?

Your two brain cells are hardly "public opinion."

Despite your rah-rah talk the OLPC project is switching to Windows in order
to get people to buy the things. People around the world would rather pirate
(steal) Windows than use your supposedly 'superior' OS for free.

I predicted the OLPC would be a disaster and once again I am spot on.

The one thing the Linux loons keep missing, and the one common denominator
in the lack of Linux adoption is that people JUST DON'T WANT LINUX!

It's really that simple.

What the Linux loons should do is figure out why people are so turned off
to Linux and fix it.

Churning out one defective distribution after another is not the way to fix
it BTW.
