That's a lie. I specifically showed that X-Windows *does* support that
feature of (presumably) all illuminated keyboards.
It was the *vendor* that decided to *not* support 'Linux'.

Let's see... I love using Linux, and I've almost always found a way to
make it do what I want, in spite of some very bad cooperation by
hardware vendors.
And now I know yet another feature of the very handy xset program and of
X Windows.
And I still don't have to rely on Windows for my personal computing and
for the vast majority of my work computing.
To me, that's a win-win situation.
