Copying a HD to another in stages
Hi, How can I accomplish this? I would like to use dd, I think, since cp is not really what I'm looking for - eg. if the 2nd drive is unformatted, and the 1st is Reiser, the 2nd one will automatically become Reiser, yes? At leas, till the part that the files take up? If not, and the 2nd is formatted to Reiser, will just cp work? What's... more »

My system won't recognize png files
I loaded fedora core 3 and recently used up2date to load recent packages. Now my system won't built. It appears to have a problem with png files. Why would that prevent the system from booting correctly?

"slowdown" - sometimes very much more effective than nice/renice
I wrote a program recently I'm calling "slowdown". It's intended for very high I/O load situations - EG, during a system backup, a filesystem transfer to another computer, when you're generating md5sums (or more generally, cryptographic digests - EG, tripwire, samhain, &c) or similar for all your system binaries, and so on.... more »

Last rites declaration of Ioannes Paulus PP. II (Karol Wojtyla)
"The unforgiveable sins this earth must confront and overcome are Nationalism, capitalism, and hoarding. The idea of every nation should be forgot, price should be struck from the commons, and princes should be seen for the devils they are. The sins include our church, secret societies, and other religions which make of... more »

Proliant DL380 HELP
Okay, I've got a fairly recent-model HP Proliant DL380 box (Xeon processors, HP Smart Array 6i controller on the RAID) that I'm trying to install RedHat 9 on. Well, it recognizes the network port, but nothing else. It can't find the hard drive to install on. I've tried getting drivers, but I can't seem to format the driver disk... more »

Empty directory (on ext3) thinks it still has files in it
So I'm going through my mail archive, backing up old files and clearing it out, and I come across a directory that's empty but which still thinks it has files in it: rmunn@localhost ~/.maildir $ ls -l .xml ls: .xml/cur: No such file or directory ls: .xml/new: No such file or directory total 0 rmunn@localhost ~/.maildir $... more »

Mozilla Firefox Web Page Fonts
How can I force Firefox to use the Truetype fonts that I copied from Windows? For example, I have Arial font that CNN.com uses but Firefox does not use it. OpenOffice and other applications use it, but Firefox. I have made the fonts available system wide - what's the trick to forcing Firefox?... more »
