Need some quick help here please. What is the siimplest way to get/
extract some individual files from the a section of what I think is
the Walnut Creek CDROM archives. Herb has them listed here at:-

http://www.retroarchive.org/cpm/cdrom/_BBS/RBBS/

They are in folders 1.DIR, 2.DIR .....602.DIR and ALL.DIR. If I say
download 222.DIR, what program do I use to open it. I tried moving the
file to CPM3 and using LU.COM, did not work.

Herb, anynbody?

Looks like a joke... ok, anyway, the .DIR files are just text files.
Text files with a listed directory or just a list of file names and
sizes, like .BBS files or .TXT files.
You can't extract files from that text files ... if you look at the size
of the .DIR files, you could expect there is nothing except text
included. I guess these files were used from a BBS software to show up
the files you can download in a selected area ;-)

Regards
Peter

Yes, look in http://www.retroarchive.org/cpm/cdrom/_BBS/RBBSTOOL/ at the
00_READ.ME. Those .DIR files were made so that an RBBS-PC board could
display the directories and files of a mounted Walnut Creek CP/M CD-ROM.

The http://www.retroarchive.org/cpm/cdrom/_BBS/ directory is dedicated to
showing how to access the CD-ROM files for users of different types of
bulletin board software.

See the BULLET.TXT file in that directory:

"The disc is set up for rbbs, opus, pcboard, wildcat, maximus, and spitfire
BBS software."

They are indeed text files, describing the path to the files on the cd.
222.dir is about NOVADOS,
path: \jsage\znode3\novados. It is indeed there.

I have the CD. Are you looking for something on it?

Greetz, Katzy.

Thanks Guys, Just started with Windows 7. It gets really bent out of
shape with a file called .DIR, Forced it to use Notepad and yes I now
see the listings.
Let me start again rephrasing the question…..

From time to time I would like to quickly look at code in this Walnut
Creek collection. Is there a way to do it over the web? Is there
currently a listing of all the CPM usergroup files by name. Then click
on that file and pop -- you get an option to download it. If not,
sounds like it would be useful and it should already exist.

Rolf, both links above did not work

A .ISO image of the entire CD is available on the N8VEM wiki
http://n8vem-sbc.pbworks.com/browse/#view=ViewFolder&param=Walnut%20Creek%20CP%2FM%20CD%20archive
You can download it if you are a member of the N8VEM group.
