1) DTK PAM-0052V with K6-2 500 MHZ(ATA 33 IDE). Small drive 500 MB in
CHS mode(with standard kernel), and larger 1700 MB drive in LBA mode(but
using new kernel supporting LBA) were tested OK.The drives were with
preinstalled Coherent ,installed on older system. So if You have old
small drive with running Coherent it should work out of the box.
2) DELL OptiPlex GX1 with PIII 600 MHZ ( ATA 33 IDE) .Only drive with
1700 MB and 8 GB in LBA mode were tested. But rather oldfashioned BIOS
seems to support even 40 MB drives. So Your old drive with preinstalled
Coherent should also boot out of the box.
The advantage of using these systemes instead of 486 is not only CPU
power horse, but also You can make backups on newest CD/DVD. How ? Using
bootit package from www.terabytes.com. It contains "image" package for
DOS/Linux, which makes images of the whole partitions.
