The third in a series of joint conferences sponsored by the Kauai
Institute
for Communications Media and the American Film Institute, "Storytelling
for
the New Millennium," is being presented on April 22-28, 1996.
"Storytelling for the New Millennium" is aimed at artists interested in
Web
and Internet design, filmmaking, new media, graphic design, music and
sound
design, technology and publishing. The conference, chaired for the
second
year by Harry Marks, will be held at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach
Club
on April 25-28, with several hands-on digital workshops currently
scheduled
for April 22-24.
The film world will be represented by -- among others -- eight-time
Academy
Award winner Dennis Muren, ASC, senior visual effects supervisor at
Industrial Light and Magic; and Rick Carter, with credits such as
"Forrest
Gump" and "Jurassic Park." The new world of non-linear storytelling will
be
explored by Dana Atchley, multimedia artist; Martin Behrens, Director of
Interactive features, Sony New Technologies; Peter Bergman of Firesign
Theatre fame; Michael Nash and Rebekah Behrendt of iNSCAPE; and John
Plunkett and Barbara Kuhr, Creative Directors of "WIRED" and HotWired;
photographer Rick Smolan; and screen writer and Rocket Science
interactive
entertainment wizard Michael Backes.
Composer Hans Zimmer and leading-edge musicians and multimedia artists
Graham Nash, Thomas Dolby and Todd Rundgren will delve into the
fast-evolving world of digital music and sound design. Lisa Wellman --
Director of publishing and Media Market Group for Apple Computer -- will
talk about the future of the medium.
