Hi to all
I'm not very experienced in configuring Sendmail (still in the learning
phase), so please excuse me if it seems a stupid question.

I'm running Sendmail 8.13.8 on FreeBSD 6.2 as a backup relay server. I've
inserted the domain for which I want to relay in the 'relay-domains' file
and I've written the following line in the 'mailertable' file:
'mydomain.com esmtp:[x.x.x.x]'
where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the primary MX for mydomain.com.

All works fine, but if I substitute the IP address with the FQDN of my
first mail server (mx1.mydomain.com), messages begin to remain in the queue
with the following alert:
'stat=Deferred: Name server: mx1.mydomain.com : host name lookup failure'
Obviously, I verified that there is no lookup problems in resolving any RR
from the secondary MX machine, which can connect to mx1.mydomain.com:25 and
submit whatever it needs.

That's the strange thing: the only solution I found is to have the DNS
domain name of the host written in the 'mailertable' file different from the
DNS suffix of the secondary mail server! In fact I have verified that there
is no problem in specifying any FQDN in the 'mailertable' file for other
domains (which have MX host names in different DNS namespaces).

Please help me understand what I'm missing... hoping that it is due to an
error in my configuration! :S

Andrew
