Is it possible to configure sendmail so it starts twice but each instance
listens on a different port?

Ok then, the next question .... How?

I wish to have sendmail listening on Port 25 , pass to anti anti-virus app
which passes back to sendmail on another port. I have looked at the
instructions for Interscan Sandwich Mode but this does not say how to do
with open source sendmail, only sendmail switch.

My app is not Interscan, but should work in a similar manner. Any tips,
advice or pointers would be appreciated.

For this to occur, would you have to configure 2 sendmail.cf files, with
different queues? On configured to pass straight to the AV prog and the
second to route the mail and perform the lookups?

http://www.netsys.com/cgi-bin/display_article.cgi?1132 for example.

Two instances of sendmail running on different ports, with different
cf files. An instance of interscan viruswall sandwiched between the
two.

25 "listening" instance of sendmail

18000 interscan virus engine

19000 "delivery" instance of sendmail

I have looked at this and it is what I am after, how do I run tell a second
copy of sendmail to use the delivery config file? I would like it to run in
daemon mode.

TIA

Having a bad couple of days. All sorted now, have two instances of sendmail
running on different ports sandwiched around the AV Scanner. Isubmitted the
relay to ordb.org for testing and it works fine; All relay attempts were
denied.

For those that are interested my AV solution was SAVI with MailMonitor on
RedHat 7.2 .

SRS: Thanks for the pointers.

If you paid for support from Sophos, you can call their hot-line. There
may be more tricks to care about...

Take a look at DAEMON_OPTIONS directive in mc configuration file
(cf/README).

I could have done, but I wouldn't have learnt half as much. It all
works now, so no more worries :-)
