Description: The PINE mail user agent.

Unknown mime type
I have mail containing some pdf files as attachments. When I read the mail with alpine 2.0 and try to view an attachment, it opens a window named Evince Document Viewer and that displays an error Unable to open document, Unknown MIME type. How do I fix this?

Using GPG with Alpine
It's been a few years since I've used Pine, and no longer have the old .pinerc that I used. I know that there was a way to setup gpg in Pine, but cannot remember how. I'm now using Alpine 2.0 on a linux box.

alpine 2.0: cannot print?
I am unable to print any of the email either using the "%" or the "y" (my config); believe that printing was available in ver 1.0, if I remember correctly. The attempt to print was made both in console mode & in a kde 4 xterm. Should clarify more in that I do get prompted for "yes or no" for printing; selected "yes" & away it "did it" but nothing... more »

Reducing startup time lags due to read-only setting
Hi I use (al)pine on a non-networked laptop to access archived email files. These archived files are read-only. Also the hostname for my laptop (D630) is considered an "incomplete maildomain" . Both of these factors result in long lags when I start up pine. In particular, it takes a while before I can sort the file, Is... more »

Is anyone else having trouble with GMail SMTP?
Upgrade to Alpine 2.00. The problem is fixed in that version. On Tue, 23 Sep 2008, John Mayson posted: ...-- Mark -- [link] Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to eat for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.

[Error sending: SMTP greeting failure: 554 nexus.berkshire.net ESMTP not accept]
I get the following message when sending through pine - [Error sending: SMTP greeting failure: 554 (server.name) ESMTP not accept] - I am not sure where to look, a Google search brings up nothing. Anyone have any pointers?

Save all attachments
Hi all, Is it possible to save all attachments in one e-mail with a simple command, e.g. enabling list-mode, selecting all and selecting save? I get a lot of e-mails with a large number of attachments, and it takes a lot of time to save each of them separately. Thanks in advance.

"Special" Characters In Pine?!?!
Hello All; I used to be able to send emails with compose characters embedded in the message ... for instance, <left-Alt>+Zero = degree-symbol. I don't know when it stopped working BUT it doesn't work now. It does still work in the Linux shell. Does anyone know if this is a Setup setting or some other user config?... more »

alpine 1.10 on AIX
First question (may be relevant to the following): when you compose mail in alpine, is the "pico" binary used, or does alpine use an internal version of pico? Anyway, I've lately been using Alpine 1.10 on an AIX machine, where the pico version is relatively old (4.64?) and I'm seeing some oddities. (I'm accessing the AIX box from Linux using ssh in... more »

cut & paste in X win
Running opensuse 11.0 x86-64 & alpine 2.00: I find that I cannot do a copy & paste in X as in Pine; & don't think that it is a xwin problem as I can use the mouse to highlight the words, copy & paste onto the browser. Alpine 2.0 evidently won't allow the use of the mouse to highlight an area for copying; there is a "copy" in the dropdown but no selection... more »
