Differences in alpine versions

Hello,

I use alpine on a mac at the command line.

I have used the alpine v. 1.01 from the u. of wash. and the v. 2.00 from
macports.

I see no difference in those mail functions I normally perform. I use an
imap connection with a gmail account.

What differences exist between the v. 1.01 and later versions, including
the re-alpine forks,?

IIRC, for example alpine treats UTF-8 right, which pine didn't.
Also, many config options have changed.
