Hi

Occasionally I subscribe to a list by a mailto link when
browsing. Later, when using pine to post to the list, my
messages are rejected. It seems that the address when I
subscribed was read as cl...@io.uwinnipeg.ca, but pine is sending
cl...@uwinnipeg.ca. I have tried editing the Reply to: field to
be cl...@io.uwinnipeg.ca, but that didn't help. Is there some
other location to control what address is read by the receiving
program? Or will I have to subscribe from within Pine to ensure
the same address is used?

Best wishes
Jim

Well, these are different addresses, right?
So you will have to subscribe each or use just one.
As simple as that.

You must understand that maillist software checks the "From:" line -
not the Reply-To line. If it did that then I could use the same
Reply-To line and thus fool it to believe that I were you.
Of course, I would never do such things...

Yes. You should read the FAQ of all FAQs within the Pine FAQ:

http://www.math.fu-berlin.de/~guckes/faq/comp.mail.pine
4.10 How do I change my 'From:' line?

And while you are at it - read the answers to the other FAQs, too.

No, there's an idea. Why don't you try this?

SIGS Name and address first! Maximum lines/chars: 4x80 - Be McQ!
SIGS One address suffices. No empty lines, no high-bit chars, no tabs.

Depending on the list software/service, you may be able to set the second
address on "no mail" so you can post from both but only get mail to one.

A good idea would be to see what's causing the "io.uwinnipeg.ca" as
opposed to "uwinnipeg.ca" to come through when you're using the browser
(i.e. the mailto: links). You should be able to set this yourself with any
decent browser (but that's not a c.m.p question).

If they were mailto: links within PINE, you can set that yourself, too.

(just like that)

A workaround may to be to alter the .pinerc so that it gives the "From"
address you want. On mine, I have the following enabled in the .pinerc:

feature-list=allow-changing-from,
<other features deleted for brevity>

and also,

customized-hdrs=From:,
reply-to:
