all text is flashing in Alpine 2.0

I am trying to figure out why my Alpine install is now flashing all
the text. I don't know if this happened after my Snow Leopard upgrade
or if I accidentally turned on this flashing. It is extremely annoying
to say the least. Any idea what's going on here? I am using OSX
10.6.1, Terminal.app, and Alpine 2.0

Try changing the colour settings. On mine, also using OS X 10.6.1, if
I select "force-xterm-256color" the text blinks.

Sounds to me (a non-Mac user) like you're trying to push the Terminal to
do more than it is designed to handle. Too many colors, perhaps?
Is it just Alpine, or does the text flash in other terminal apps that
use colors?

It is only in Alpine. I re-set all the colours to default with the
same result.
