Hello,

I've got Alpine 1.00 installed on my system, and would like to upgrade
to the newer 2.00 version. Downloaded the .DEB package and it would
not install because a dependency is not satisfiable: libldap2.
Checking the Adept Manager (I run Kubuntu 8.04), I found that this
wasn't installed on my system. So, I got it installed. I still can't
install Alpine 2.00. Any ideas as to what's happening?

Thank you!
Jason

I think the problem it is looking for older insecure libraries that
are out of date. It has the same issues with centos as well.
You can try compiling on your own machine. I could get past the
configure with no problems but make still fails.
I noticed others can't get 2.0 to work as well and are recommending
Mutt as a replacement. I may give it a try and see
if it's any good.

good luck,
Fletch

Compiling on Debian Sarge and Etch was no problem.

Anyone experience on installing Alpine 2.00 on Ubuntu 8.04?

Both of my work machines are Ubuntu 8.04; I have workstation on a 64-bit
laptop and server on a 32-bit pizza box. Alpine builds and installs on
both without problem.

You do need to install various software development packages though:
build-essential, libssl-dev, and libpam0g-dev come immediately to mind.
You may also want to get libldap2-dev.

You'll need more stuff if you want to build Web Alpine.
