One problem with FreeBSD is that its locale and charset features are
not very sophisticated. Mutt runs very well on FreeBSD, and there is a
lot of happy users to prove it. But Mutt runs yet better on some other
systems, like Glibc ones, where it can take advantage of the way more
advanced and accurate locale-related functions.

I run MUTT in a 40Mhz 386 with 8Mby memmory with Basic Linux
with no problem.
