mutt 1.5.21: directory browser does not work (any longer), in 1.5.17 it works

Hi,
I google'd very long, I did'nt found a solution. In mutt 1.5.21 (ubuntu
12.04) the directory browser does not work (any longer), in mutt 1.5.17
(Suse 11.1) it works fine.
In http://dev.mutt.org/trac/wiki/MuttFaq/Maildir this bug is declared as
a feature:
"The problem with that is that Mutt's directory browser cannot know
whether you want to enter the folder when you press enter on the item,
or whether you want to go to the subdirectory to see the subfolders
there. You can still enter the folder's full name at the 'c'hange folder
prompt, but the folder browser will not work."
But its not a feature! It am using mutt since 12 years and directory
browser was always working. I need the directory browser urgently.
