Hi,

I am using mutt with M$-Exchange over IMAP protocol. Searring with to,
from and subhect is very quick. My mailbox size is of 300MB but search
is very quick. But problem is if I want search in email header
( using ~h) search has become slow. I caching header body in local
drive. Is there anything I am missing OR is default behavieour of
mutt? How can I abort the search?

Thanks

* Jagadeesh <mnjag...@gmail.com>:

You cache header and bodies, or only headers or only bodies?

What do you search for exactly? Note that an imap search is string
comparison only, while local search is usually regex. Also note that the
IMAP search using a local body cache can only work for already viewed
messages.

A cool workaround for this - I just discovered and am experimenting with
it myself - is the OfflineIMAP package. It needs a recent version of
Python to run, but basically replicates your IMAP account locally. You
point Mutt to the local IMAP cache and the OfflineIMAP program keeps it
in sync with your account at the provider. In theory, pretty neat, and
the documentation has specific instructions for Mutt, so it seems to be
designed for Mutters. Once you have a local IMAP cache I think you can
do all sorts of cool things, which would facilitate other mechanisms for
searching (such as grepping the local cache).

Thanks for replying.

I cache both header and body. I am searching only in body.

Thanks

I tried offlineIMAP to. but I didn't like it. It is very slow with MS
Exchange.
always keeps refreshing.

Thanks
