IMO `pine` is badly designed.
Imagine that you need to walk 2 hours to the postbox.
And then you join a queue of 200 posters.
When you finally get to post, you'll:-
* want to have brought sufficient mails to justify the cost;

gmail: doesn't imap keep the directory?

Finally I found the instructions to imap & smtp gmail, with the required
ssl. It uses alpine. But I can't see how to send a set of 'postponed' mails
that I've prepared, once I go on-line. It shows only forward & reply.
The imap facility took long to d/l the gmail-dir of about 70 mails.
Now that I've gone off-line, the directory is not visible.... more »

Ideally, when a mail server sends a message, it takes the most secure
path first, and then downgrades the security as needed until the
message is sent. This means it should make attempts in this order:
1) Create a list of tor exit nodes that do not block port 25

.... your ISP has recently set up its mail server to drop non-delivery reports on outgoing mail (so you never know you've typed a recipient address wrongly); blocks port 25 except to their own server (so you can't send directly); and doesn't put in a reverse DNS entry (so other mail servers won't allow access)?... more »
