Here is some information about a product from Sweden that interfaces
MS Mail to UUCP. (I am not connected with this company, have not even
bought their product...) The question "how to connect MS Mail to
the real world" is such a recurring theme on these groups that it seems
useful to post this.

TenFour will send you these two messages if you write to them at

TFS GATEWAY
TFS (Transfer File System) is a series of products developed to integrate
different
electronic mail systems with each other. TFS is built in modules whose
configurations
can be adjusted to suit the customer. TFS is a DOS-based application and runs
on a
dedicated PC on the network. Several modules can run at the same time on one PC.
LAN BASED E-MAIL SYSTEMS
Today TFS has modules for Lotus cc:Mail, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Mail, Word
Perfect
Office 4.0a.
For example, the module for Lotus Notes can not only be connected to Internet
Mail
mentioned below, but also to Microsoft Mail.
INTERNET MAIL
TFS can be connected to Internet Mail via UUCP or SMTP. The user will find
attachments to work on Internet Mail in the same way as on the LAN-based
application. Another feature is virus scanning, which scans for viruses on
incoming
attachments. In TFS 'privilege table' you can set up the local user that are to
have
access to the public system you have installed. The size of file attachments
allowed
can also be controlled down to an individual level.
The TFS modules for Internet supports MIME, and since the product is developed
in
Sweden it also supports international character sets to be able to handle
different character sets
correct on the LAN.
Incoming messages are scanned to determine which character set the sender is
using.
When sending messages, the character set, including MIME, to use can be decided
down to an addressee level. These features are unique for TFS.
DIME - A NEW CONCEPT IN TFS
TFS introduces DIME (Direct Information Messaging Exchange) which makes it
possible to send information through TFS to a direct address on the network.
This
could be a file name or a printer.
TFS Gateway was the only gateway that was approved at Interop-94 in Stockholm,
Sweden in May 1994.
TFS Gateway is sold by distributors in Sweden and in several countries around
the
world.

TFS Gateway Microsoft Mail <-> Internet Mail (UUCP)
TFS
TFS (Transfer File System) is the product needed in
order to connect Microsoft Mail to Internet Mail via
UUCP.
This TFS is one in a series of TFS Gateways, a
product line connecting different electronic mail
systems to each other. Ask Your retailer for more
information about the other TFS products.
FEATURES
TFS is developed with special consideration to
international conditions and has such subtleties as
character conversions for ISO-646-SE and ISO-8859-1.
This means that e.g. Swedish characters
are handled correctly. The character conversion can
be set individually at different levels down to the
adressee level. Handling addresses to Internet Mail
is also easy for Microsoft Mail users as TFS handles
the special characters used in Internet Mail.

The administrator is in control of who is to use
TFS, and can limit the size of the messages for all
individual users to be sent out on the Internet via
TFS.
When binary files are sent out by TFS, they are
automatically packed in UNIX format (uuencode).
Binary files that are received by the TFS are
automatically packed up from UNIX format to DOS
format (uudecode).
Messages received by TFS are automatically
controlled in order to confirm which character set
is used and then convert the message to the right
character set.
MIME
TFS supports MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail
Extensions), a type of standard to handle character
sets, binary files, sound and graphics. TFS handles
MIME as it handles other types of character sets,
which means that You can choose to send MIME at an
addressee level. Incoming messages in MIME format
are treated correctly by TFS.
DIME
TFS can handle Direct Information Message Exchange,
meaning that one can distribute information between
networks automatically via TFS and have Internet
Mail as carrier of the information. With DIME and an
additional product from TenFour, You can build Your
own mailback system. This saves You time and money
in information handling, since You let the customer
order the information himself when it suits the
customer.

IN CONTROL OF YOUR RESOURCES
The TFS helps the administrator control who shall
have access to Internet, and as mentioned there are
limits that can be put on each user to regulate the
size of the messages sent on Internet Mail. If You
communicate via Internet Mail from one TFS to
another, there exists a receipt function - something
not generally supported by Internet.
To improve the security around Your e-mail system
even further, there is a virus check that can be
installed in the TFS to control incoming binary
files.
HOW TO USE TFS
TFS can be installed in two different
configurations:
1. Together with Microsoft MFS Gateway
If You have a Microsoft Mail network with several
post offices, the TFS is run together with
Microsoft s MHS Gateway and MHS Access. MHS Access
is needed in the post offices that communicate with
the post office where TFS is installed.
2. Only TFS
If You only have a Microsoft Mail post office, the
MHS is not necessary - TFS alone is enough.
Microsoft Mail for Windows is neded for this
configuration.
LICENSE
There are two types of license:
1. up to 25 users of the TFS and
2. an unlimited number of users.
The Programs and Manuals are in English.
