The meta-FAQ is for those who have unusually bad problems in dealing
with MIME (the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions). Although the
meta-FAQ is written primarily for persons who have problems reading
the MIME FAQ itself, the meta-FAQ contains information of general
utility to those who need help displaying messages in MIME format.
Note that this pointer message, like the meta-FAQ itself, is an
ordinary, plain-text news article--no MIME.
Follow these instructions to obtain the MIME meta-FAQ:
- Mosaic or another WWW client may be used to find the MIME FAQ
and the meta-FAQ at these URLs:
http://www.cs.ruu.nl/wais/html/na-dir/mail/mime-faq/.html
ftp://ftp.uu.net/usenet/news.answers/mail/mime-faq/
ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet-by-group/news.answers/mail/mime-faq/
Look for "mime0".
The meta-FAQ is also available at this URL:
ftp://ftp.ics.uci.edu/pub/mh/contrib/multimedia/mime-meta-FAQ
- The meta-FAQ is available via anonymous FTP from various hosts,
including these:
ftp.uu.net:/usenet/news.answers/mail/mime-faq/*
rtfm.mit.edu:/pub/usenet-by-group/news.answers/mail/mime-faq/*
Look for "mime0".
Another FTP location for the meta-FAQ is this:
ftp.ics.uci.edu:/pub/mh/contrib/multimedia/mime-meta-FAQ
If possible, please try to find a closer site; for example, by
asking archie for "mime-faq" or "mime-meta-FAQ".
- To retrieve the meta-FAQ by mail server, you may send a message
to this address:
The message body should contain this line:
send /pub/mh/contrib/multimedia mime-meta-FAQ
Note the spaces between words; capitalization is also significant.
- To obtain help about using the mail server, send a message whose
body contains this line:
help
...to this address:
Neither the MIME meta-FAQ nor the MIME FAQ are intended to solve every
possible problem that you might have with your mail system. If you
have general difficulties with your mail system, difficulties that are
_not_ specific to MIME, you should consider the possibility that a
more correct forum for your questions lies elsewhere, such as any of
these newsgroups:
comp.mail.elm comp.mail.pine
comp.mail.eudora.mac comp.mail.sendmail
comp.mail.eudora.ms-windows comp.mail.zmail
comp.mail.mh
comp.mail.misc
comp.mail.mush
Please also note:
Questions about mail systems, how to decode MIME parts on your
computer, and other such issues, if not already answered in the
MIME meta-FAQ or in the MIME FAQ, should be posted to
comp.mail.mime or to the info-mime mailing list.
Correspondence sent to the MIME FAQ maintainer primarily should
address information in the MIME FAQ or in the meta-FAQ---corrections,
additions, or suggestions for improvement.
The MIME meta-FAQ is posted monthly to comp.mail.mime and to
news.answers. This pointer is posted weekly to comp.mail.mime,
as is a separate pointer to the MIME FAQ.
