  Whatever your platform requires to support SSL. If I recall, you&#39;re using &lt;br&gt; Windows. Try asking in an appropriate microsoft.* newsgroup. This no longer &lt;br&gt; has anything to do with IMAP.

  You can&#39;t connect to the Googlemail IMAP server without SSL. &lt;br&gt; As Joel wrote, as long as the server doesn&#39;t greet you with an untagged &lt;br&gt; OK response, you&#39;ve not successfully connected to it. &lt;br&gt; After connection, it might be necessary to send the CAPABILITY command &lt;br&gt; first, I&#39;m not sure about this. &lt;br&gt; Timo

  Some IMAP servers will automatically create the necessary parent folders. &lt;br&gt; Other servers will refuse to do so. &lt;br&gt; If you intend to have your client work with all IMAP servers, you must be &lt;br&gt; prepared to handle all possibilities.

  I haven&#39;t found any server yet that wouldn&#39;t automatically create the &lt;br&gt; parents. But if you want to be really safe, you can always do: &lt;br&gt; 1 create parent/ &lt;br&gt; 2 create parent/child/ &lt;br&gt; 3 create parent/child/target &lt;br&gt; (/ being the correct hierarchy separator)
