I wrote to Support for the "refused" domain and they told me to
switch to Port 2525. So I did, which immediately caused my first
domain to get the "connection refused" error, and stop sending mail.
I'm using Eudora 6.2.3.4. There's only one place in
Tools/Options/Ports to enter an SMTP port number. AKAIK, there's no
way to customize each outgoing mail port for the various accounts on
different servers. "Personalities" Properties seems to imply that it
can be done, depending which boxes you check under "SMTP server," but
the only option is to check or uncheck "Use port 587."
Is there any way to give each account its own SMTP port, or am I
cursed to live under the idiotic hand of Comcast?
Thanks.
JJ
For your dominant personality, set the port using Tools/Options/Ports.
Now create a new personality for the other account and fill in all
info. Shut down Eudora. Open Eudora.ini and in the new personality
make an entry:
SMTPPort=X where X is the desired port number.
Same for all other settings that need to be different on a personality
by personality basis.
Make sure you don't let any lines in Eudora.ini wrap before saving it
or you'll have a real mess.
I vaguely recall a discussion here saying you can do it via editing
the eudora.ini file, something like, in each persona...
SMTPPort=xxx
I'm sure one of the experts will fill in the details.

The "Esoteric" plugin is your curse -- do _not_ use that to set ports! :)
Instead, open Tools > Personalities, right-click each icon in turn
(including "Dominant"), choose "Properties,"
and set "Use submission port (587)" _only_ there.
Eudora version 6.2.3.4 was in fact the first version
to completely obsolete the "Esoteric" settings plugin in this manner,
after which it should have been burned :)
The same goes for "Secure Sockets when Sending"
and "Secure Sockets when Receiving," whenever these are used.
Since you have already played with the "Esoteric" settings, however,
be sure to undo all those port settings first (either blank them out
or set them back to the defaults shown in parentheses).
Since this will fix the original "refused" domain,
there will be no need to use port 2525 to undo the original damage
done by changing fundamental port _defaults_ via the "Esoteric" plugin,
and thus no need to edit Eudora.ini (except to remove "2525,"
if the above doesn't already remove it).
That obsolete "Ports" tool, by the way, was okay as of when
no one used more than one personality, and thus no more than one
POP server and one SMTP server to contend with, but obviously
it became a headache when conflicting needs of different accounts
were overruled by an inflexible Great Evil Dictator :)
That's why every personality now has its own independent settings,
which automagically take care of every ISP which can use _any_ of
the internet standard email port numbers: 25, 587 or 465 for SMTP,
110 or 995 for POP, and 143 or 993 for IMAP, with 465, 995 or 993
being set by simply choosing the wording "Alternate Port"
in the appropriate "Secure Sockets" drop-down list,
or 587 being set by choosing "Use submission port (587),"
rather than letting the "Esoteric" plugin
redefine the built-in standard default ports
across all personalities at once!
By the way, if you choose _both_ "Alternate" and "Use 587"
for SMTP in the same Personality,
"Alternate" wins, and "Use 587" is ignored
(developers should have "grayed out" such conflicts,
but they must have been too busy to bother :)
