Just started using Eudora 7 and I notice that incoming emails that have
photos as part of the message fail to appear. Instead of a photo I get a
box with a small red x.
Do I have a wrong setting? Thanks

The red X is what MS IE uses as a placeholder. There's no setting in
Eudora that should give you results like that, but there are settings in
IE that can do it. The placeholders appear when the graphics either can't
be displayed or IE thinks it shouldn't display them.

There are a number of potential reasons for this problem. To figure out
which one applies in your case is going to take checking into several
things.

First, check to see whether you have the same problem when using the
internal viewer. (The internal viewer uses gray boxes as placeholders.) if
you see the same problem in both viewers, the problem is most likely
caused by problems with the graphics themselves or with the way the
messages are composed. If the internal viewer displays them but the MS
viewer doesn't, the problem is likely to be in MS IE.

There's a setting in MS IE that is something about showing placeholders
for graphics. In at least some cases, having that turned off can cause the
MS browser to show placeholders. (That may or may not only apply to IE 7.)

Another thing that can be important to know when diagnosing the problem is
whether the graphics are actually embedded graphics sent in the message or
graphics that have to be downloaded from servers when displaying the
messages. (The two types look the same when displayed in the message. You
have to either know which is which or look at the source code to tell the
difference.) If the graphics really are embedded, look in the "embedded"
subdirectory to see if they're really there. If they are there, try to
open them in a graphics viewer.

You can also try using "send to browser" while using the MS viewer and see
what results you get.
