So, I deleted the *subdirectory* ADCACHE (in ..\EUDORA\EUDPRIV\ADS\)
and replaced it by a *file* called ADCACHE.
And now that beautiful logo of Eudora will not be longer replaced by
those awful ads ;-)

How long have you been using this? When I started blocking the ads with a
firewall at first, Eudora gave an error/warning messsage after some time
(a week? maybe longer) that it was unable to fetch ads and would revert to
light mode if this continued. Haven't noticed this with using the 'hosts'
file for redirecting queries to Eudora ad servers (my Eudora has never
tried to connect to jump.eudora.com, only to ads-something), but I haven't
been using this for long.

Well, let's see what happens here. In the past Eudora started to nag
after a few hours that I hid the ads (docking the square to the very
edge of my screen), but till now nothing like this happened.
