I have been unable (so far) to get Ecco (Pro 4.01) to send email via the
MAPI interface through Eudora Pro (3.05). Ecco (NetManage) doc and
messages say that "it can't find the appropriate files". Ecco offers
(tools/properties/Mail) two seemingly plausible options: MAPI and
Eudora, neither of which seem to work.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

I finally managed to get this scenario (Eudora 3.05 and ECCO 4.01) to
work. In the nline guide (manual.pdf) in one of the appendices, it
talks about MAPI support. Apparently, the MAPI DLLs (byt default)
attach to Microsoft Exchange. When you set up Eudora (though
Tools:Options) to enable MAPI support, it "swaps" the Microsoft DLLs
with the Eudora DLLs. However, if a client application (like ECCO
4.01) has already attached to the MAP DLLs, the swap will fail.
I got it to work by setting the Mail support (in ECCO
Tools:Options:Mail) to None, Starting Eudora as a MAPI Server, then
setting ECCO Tools:Options:Mail to Eudora 3.01.

I found that, after configuring Eudora 3.0 (3.0.5) as the default mail
cllient, I had to set up Eudora to run in MAPA "Always." ( USR had
suggested setting Eudora up to run in MAPI when Eudora is running).
This also helps with PalmPilot synchronization.
