This will be good to find out. I'm using XP Home. The answer
probably has something to do with HTML, other than that I have no
clue.

Make sure you are sending "styled text":
Tools > Options > Styled Text

I am sending styled text. The formatting of messages that I forward
removed from the message when X-Mailer: Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0.
That is the only time that the formatting is removed. The only example
I still have in my inbox that doesn't remove the formatting is
X-Mailer: YahooMailRC/182.10 YahooMailWebService/0.7.347.3.
Unfortunately, many of my friends are now using Outlook 12.0.
How was the incoming message viewed?
With "Use Microsoft's viewer" or not?
What if not?
Was "formatting removed" even before you sent your forwarded message?
Did you send yourself a copy of your forwarded message,
to view it again upon receipt?
Do you have the original "source" of the original message,
and the same for your forwarded message,
to see what sort of HTML each contains?
Given all these unknowns, it seems to me that
not enough detail is available to draw a conclusion.
What happens with "Send again"?

font and color are the ones I've noticed.

Microsoft's Viewer

Formatting shows in preview pane and when I double click on the
message header.
Font and color are my defaults when I forward msg, redirect msg, and
reply to msg.

Yes, font and color are my message defaults, not what was in the
original message.

In view source of the msg I forwarded to myself there is only the
default: BODY {font-family="Trebuchet MS"} and no <head> tag
In view source of the original msg there is the above default plus:
<span CLASS=EUDORAHEADER> </span> around each line of the
headers
followed by
<head>
<meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=us-ascii">
<meta name=Generator content="Microsoft Word 12 (filtered medium)">

still default font and color.

That's a copy of the message, altered for display by Internet Explorer,
when using the "Microsoft viewer" option.

Styles can not be understood by Eudora's viewer.
If all this is missing from the sent message,
then the sent message can not be interpreted,
and it's no wonder that styles might be lost
(as well as fonts which recipients might not even have)
X-Mailer: Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0
This reminds me of some bank checks,
which contain features so that attempts to use a photocopier
result in either a blank or a severely messed up copy.
Nice of Microsoft to do the same with email :)
It doesn't bother me, however, since I perform "remove formatting"
on every incoming mail that comes with formatting,
and I refuse to either save or forward the vastly bloated HTML :)

I remember that, too. Also American Express bills. bah humbug!

I don't mind losing the bloat but I have a couple of friends that I
exchange emails with where we do replies inline. Retaining the colors
makes it easier to know who wrote what. Ah well.
Thanks for the info. You are a tremendous asset to this ng.
