I downloaded MF v2.2.3 (MacOS Intel) and installed it as a trial, and
things are not going all that well.

I have not found the documentation, and things are not identical to
Eudora, so I am not doing things correctly.

I set up a bunch of filters to route messages to folders, and MF often
crashes when I manually filter, but the same filter works OK later.

What experience have people been having with MailForge? I will soon be
a refugee from Eudora, when I next upgrade my iMac and Rosetta is gone.

Thanks,

Joe

There should not be much documenation necessary, if a relatively
straight-forward application - such as a mail client - is well-designed.

The first two releases (1.x and 2.x) are in most cases unusable; I do
not know anybody using only MailForge as their mail client. However, a
version 3 is promised in the near future. I recommend you have a look at
the forum of Infinity Data Systems:

Matt Milano is very careful to say that MF does not replicate Eudora,
and he is certainly correct. I have been using Eudora for at least ten
years, and I soon found the limits of using Eudora as the model while
setting MF up.

I did find the forum, although I have not yet succeeded in joining it.
The only active thread is the Waiting-for-Godot (v3) thread.

I have the impression that IDS (with ~9 employees) is having the usual
problems getting v3 out the door, and everybody who can code is fully
engaged, living on pizza and Chinese takeout, and sleeping on the floor
between bouts of coding. I'm betting v3 won't come out before July.

But you are right - v2.2.3 is clearly not ready for prime time. I'll
wait for v3. Or, maybe better, v3.1.

9 employees? Did Matt clone himself 8 times?

No idea. I got the count from business reference sites. Two or three
names are mentioned, including Matt. How many of the 9 are programmers
isn't clear.

Probably too late for me. I paid for MailForge early in its life cycle
but it never got to a point where it was good enough to replace Eudora.

I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) this week, and have switched from
Eudora to Apple Mail. Seems better than earlier versions, but it does
have irritations so I'm still keeping an eye on alternatives.

But .. You are supporting the development of v3!

I tried Mail on MacOS 10.6.8 (in parallel with MailForge), and was
annoyed, not merely underwhelmed. One would think that Apple could do
far better.

My wife, who is non-technical, rejected Apple Mail in favor of
Thunderbird Mail. Actually, although there was a learning curve, she
prefers Eudora, even though she isn't in the slightest interested in the
techno aspects.

Have a look at GayzMail: <www.gyazsquare.com/gyazmail>. Until something
better shows up, I am using this.

Tried to access this today and got a 403 error. Maybe just a glitch.

Works for me right now.

Still doesn't work for me. Odd.

That is, a bit...

Tried it yesterday and it took a long time to respond, but worked in the
end. This morning at 10:30 it was nice and quick.

And I tried several browsers and my iPod Touch as well as my computer!
Maybe check with my ISP to see if they have an issue. Changing DNS does
not help.

I downloaded the program from Macupdate. But if one can't connect, then
it would not be possible to buy a licence and communication would be
difficult.

There's a lot I like about Gyazmail. But I am still having trouble
finding a mail program that will import attachments from Eudora
properly, even Using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner, as one artist friend tends
to send lots of images. I want to keep all my ancient POP mail.

Current situation, looking at one particular message is that Eudora
shows it with one inline image and one image also in the message that
seems to be an attachment (difference is that the first image is just
there, the second is there but with a name of thisimage.jpg given to
it). Eudora Mailbox Cleaner imports fine into Thunderbird (and so also
into Postbox, which I am currently using) except that thisimage.jpg does
not display but it there as an attachment. But if I try importing from
Thunderbird to Gyazmail, then thisimage.jpg isn't there at all.

Just a guess; could one of them be in the folder you have designated as
Eudora's attachment folder, and the other be in the Eudora Parts folder
in the Eudora folder?

How many of the 9 actually exist isn't clear either, but it appears to
be less than 2.

I suspect that may be why the message when shown in Eudora has the two
items looking slightly different, and from this why the two look very
different in Thunderbird.

But I would have expected the import into Thunderbird to move the two
from somewhere in the Eudora folder to somewhere (possibly even as part
of the message) in the Thunderbird folder.

And I also would have expected the import from Thunderbird into Gyazmail
to keep the attachment rather than to lose it.

I recalled that I had tried out Gyazmail a long time ago, so I have the
developer's email address (a fairly obvious one) and have emailed him
regarding the problem with the site and also this issue.
