When getting mail, opens multiple programs

I belong to alot of listserv's, probably close to 15. Everytime I
open up the program, it starts up a new application for every folder.
I can have up to ten at a time. Then I have to wait until it's done
getting email and have to close them one at a time. It's enough of an
irritation to get another email program.
