Eudora and iCloud

I'm going to be travelling for a couple of months, past when MobileMe
finishes, so thought I should upgrade to iCloud now while I have the
time to sort out any problems. I was mainly concerned that my @mac.com
account would continue working.

First surprise: iCloud does not support POP.

Second, I cannot get Eudora to work with it using IMAP. All I get in the
log file is this:

MAIN 262144:0.12.26 Connection to 17.172.34.200:143 failed. Error 705
MAIN 8:0.12.26 : 706
MAIN 8:0.12.27 Could not get mailbox list.
MAIN 8:0.12.27 20
MAIN 8:0.12.27 Unable to get the required mailbox list from the server.
MAIN 8:0.12.27 Could not get mailbox list.

MAIN 8:0.12.27 Unable to get the required mailbox list from the server.
MAIN 8:0.14.10 Dismissed with 1.

If I keep trying, I get these:

MAIN 8:0.45.18 45
MAIN 8:0.45.18 No response in 45 seconds. Keep trying?
MAIN 8:0.47.24 Dismissed with 1.

And they go on forever.

Has anyone got Eudora to work with iCloud accounts?

I don't have iCloud, but I can see the problem anyway:

17.172.34.200 is a correct IP address for imap.mail.me.com

But 143 (IMAP with TLS or unsecured) is the wrong port number.

You must use SSL on port 993 ("Alternate Port" for IMAP), per:
