Do you know the IP number of champagne.crs4.it ?
E.g. www.crs4.it has 156.148.18.7
> http://www.crs4.it/~3diadm/i3d-install.html
web.archive.org finds the page till 2003.
http://web.archive.org/web/20030211132435/http://www.crs4.it/~3diadm/i3d-install.html
| The current version is V1.0 and is running only on Silicon Graphics
| workstations under IRIX 5.2 or later.

The FAQ
http://web.archive.org/web/20030211134220/www.crs4.it/~3diadm/i3d-faq.html#faq1
Talks about VRML 1.0, shutter glasses and a Spaceball as Input devices.
If you can use a VRML1 to VRML2 converter (e.g. part of the SGI cosmoplayer
as "vrml1Tovrml2"), white_dune can be possibly used instead of I3D.
white_dune is a VRML2/VRML97/X3DV editor and has support for shutter glasses
and a Spaceball.
A binary package of white_dune is available for SGI IRIX 6.5.
Sourcecode is available, it can be compiled under IRIX 6.2 and it should be
possible to compile it under IRIX 5.2.

it's possible compiling i3D irix 5.2 under debian lenny?
it's a test for file conversion VRML2 to VRML1 to see:
http://web.tiscali.it/lafdsp/batteriaInferioreDelPampalu'.tar.bz2
whit view3dscene-kambi it's ok
freewrl it's ok
white-dune lenny it's ok
orbisnap 0.5 it's ok
Scene Viewer it's ok
vrweb it's ok
thankyou Joerg!
Well, compiling usually requires the source code....
i3D is rather old, maybe it is from 1995.
So it depends, if i3D uses something older like Iris GL or PHIGS/PEX ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHIGS
| PEX was mostly removed from XFree86 4.2.x (2002) and finally removed from
| the X Window System altogether in X11R6.7.0 (April 2004)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRIS_GL
Iris GL is similar to OpenGL, but would your need to change any
functioncall of a program to change it from Iris GL to OpenGL 8-(
... or something OpenGL based (OpenGL, inventor, performer)
OpenGL, inventor ("coin") and performer exists for Linux, but AFAIK
e.g. performer is commercial...
It would be also possible, that the 2D part of the i3d program is not
available under Linux, e.g. there was a special (incompatible ?) motif
variant for IRIX.

AFAIK vrweb is a VRML1 browser. Couldn't it be a replacement for i3d ?
