Hi all,

I'm writing to let people know that the new Tcl Tutorial is shaping up
nicely, but we can still use your help. The Tcl Tutorial is being made
available as a way to explain Tcl to those who are new to the language,
something that the manual pages probably aren't as suited for.

What you can do to get involved:

* Check it out from CVS:

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anon...@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/tcl co -P\
tcltutorial

* Read it. Look for errors. Look for things that don't make sense.

* If you feel so inclined, send in patches, corrections and improvements
to help us raise the quality of the tutorial (either here or the
tcl-core list, as the tutorial will ship with Tcl 8.5, I believe -
please not to me personally.)

* Write new material, or work on changing the structure of the tutorial.

* Improve the look and feel. I'm not a GUI whiz - right now it's very
simple and to the point. Improvements that don't take away from the
practical value are welcome.

* Other improvements - someone suggested that we link to on line man
pages from the various explanations of commands, which sounds like a
good idea to me.

Ciao,

I know it is a bit rash, but should we start contemplating a similar
action for Tk already? I mean, even with just a few initial chapters
life for
novice Tk users could become very much easier ...

Maybe a list of what should go in it could be created on the wiki?

Such an obvious option! Why didn't I think of that?
Just done so: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/14307>

I am not sure where it should go but a quick intro to TkCon should go
on either the Tcl or Tk tutorial. That is a really neat application
that has helped me as a beginner.

I see enough things to do with the Tcl Tutorial to stay occupied for a
while, but if there's someone willing to step up and do the work for a
Tk tutorial, I don't think there would be any argument!

Take no offense because you are highly qualified but I would like
someone else as well since you ARE busy with the Tcl one.
