This message announces the availability of freeWrap version 6.62. FreeWrap 6.62 is based on TCL/TK 8.6.1

freeWrap is a program that allows creation of stand-alone TCL/TK executables without needing a compiler.

Versions are free and available for the Windows and Linux operating systems.

Instructions and source code for building freeWrap are also available.

The following additional variation of freeWrap is also available for download:

freewrapTCLSH a console-only application which includes only TCL.

Please visit the freeWrap home page:

http://freewrap.sourceforge.net

Changes implemented in version 6.62
-----------------------------------
1. FreeWrap was built using TCL/TK 8.6.1
2. FreeWrap is built with threads support enabled.

Hi

I am failing to find the Linux version of FreeWrap.
What am I missing?
Do I have to compile it myself?

Thanks
Avi

Sorry, wrong package.
I found the Linux part in freewrapTCLSH662.

However, I am getting:
/lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found (required by ....)

I am running RHEL 6.4 x86_64.

Thanks
Avi

I believe RHEL 6.4 ships with glibc 2.12. You will need to update your system to glibc 2.14 or later if you want to run freeWrap 6.62 as it is currently compiled. Otherwise, you can recompile freeWrap yourself.

Dennis

Thanks for your assistance.
Obviously, I need to wrap so I can copy the executable to other servers.

Do I need to upgrade glibc to 2.14 on the one server where I do the wrapping or on all destination servers?

Thanks again
Avi

On the server where you wrap AND on the destination servers also.

Thank you.
I "own" only the server which I use for the wrapping.
So this is unfortunately not feasible.

Well, you could recompile it on your server and it would then use the older library that you have installed.

Hello,

I was the OP that raised the thread issue with freewrap 6.61
Thank you for this new release.

I don't think this is a thread related problem but I get these errors now:

Just to be clear enough, these errors raised when lunching the .exe file created by freewrap 6.62 (not when creating the .exe file with freewrap)

thanks

Why not using the the Tcllib embedded in Freewrap ? What gives "package names" when executing freewrap as standalone ( a console appears then ) ?

That is what I am doing, I use tcllib embedded in Freewrap.

I use exactly the same Tcl source program on Linux and Windows.

Below a snippet with the 3 packages I'm using:

**************
#!/bin/sh
# the next line restarts using tcl \
exec tclsh "$0" "$@"

package require Thread
package require ip
package require term::ansi::send
.
.
.
**************

Thank you

Hi, just started using freewrap, looking for an alternative to TCKDevKit. Have several questions but one I could use help with now. How does freewrap differentiate between files included in the freewrap compile and those that are external to the exe?

With TCLDevKit one uses info script to get the 'virtual' location and pwd to get the file system locations.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...got it!

Other thing I have learned or think I understand from the limited docs...if freewrap is unable to find a file in the VFS, then it looks for the file in the host file system

That is really nice...DevKit will throw an error (which is reaonable.)

I there a way to stop the freewrap console from closing upon completion of the wrapping. It executes so quickly that I can't see if there are any errors.
