Hi,

seems like I'm not the only one missing the -stride option in lsearch:
http://wiki.tcl.tk/1486

Is this completely forgotten?

Cheers

It seems that -stride isn't an option (yet) lsearch, just in lsort.
See https://core.tcl.tk/tips/doc/trunk/tip/351.md
(... pending ...8.7 ? ...etc.)

Yes, exactly. It was proposed a long time ago, but now it seems forgotten... INHO, this is a "must have" option, especially because it is available already in lsort.

Does the TIP have a sample implementation?

If not, provide one (that may well move the tip along)!

I'm afraid, I'm not that good in C programming to provide this kind of implementations...

Then please try to avoid "demanding" features (which is how your "must
have" statement came across here). The TCL maintainers work on it in a
voluntary basis, so appearing to "demand" a feature be added often
comes across badly.

Sorry Rich, I actually never demand something, just making improvement proposals. This is how I contribute to the community.

What is the TIP number?

Here you go: https://core.tcl.tk/tips/doc/trunk/tip/351.md
It's not written by me, that's I was asking if the thing is completely forgotten or there is a reason why this is not wanted in the core. Just asking around...

Most likely because no one has provided an implementation.

People tend to work in areas they are interested in an/or need -- I'm
guessing those that are doing the work don't need this feature in
lsearch and don't find it that interesting to do as opposed to the other
work they are doing.
