I wish a hand held data collection device.
Being current production is important.
I wish Tcl/Tk as it will provide practice coding for an unrelated project.
The device must NOT have cell network connectivity.
My preferred OS is Linux.
I wish to avoid Android.

Suggested devices?
{Those specs are quite firm ;)
TIA

If that's the problem, you could simply not install a SIM card. Most
current devices can work without a SIM card, i.e. offline or connected
only via Wifi.

Check.

This one really kills it. On all current Android devices you could use
androwish.

Hello Richard,

my company is in the AIDC (Barcode&RFID) business and we use those data
collection terminals using Windows CE with TCL from Evolane.

Evolane shut down but we still have the binaries from old projects.
Evolane was a one man show from a genious guy now working with yahoo.
Give a sign if this is interesting for you.

But I would urgently advise you to use Android, a full Windows PDA or a
Linux PDA.

Enjoy,
Harald

A Linux PDA was my original goal.
A Linux OS would address maintainability issues. A software analog of
specifying current production hardware.

Any PDA's with Linux preinstalled or amenable to user install of Linux?
